Treatment

 

No cure currently exists for Marburg virus. As a result, health care providers treat the disease by managing the symptoms and doing what they can to prevent further complications or death.Till now no antiviral medications have proved effective in treating infection with either virus. Supportive hospital care includes:

  • Providing fluids
  • Maintaining blood pressure
  • Providing oxygen as needed
  • Replacing lost blood
  • Treating other infections that develop
  • Managing pain
  • Replenishing fluids and electrolytes to prevent dehydration
  • Replacing blood or clotting factors in the case of hemorrhaging
  • Treating any secondary infections or complications
