Principle of Column Chromatography
The Mobile and stationary phases are two different phases present in the chromatographic column. When the mobile phase is moved with the solvent which needs to be separated from the edge of the column. And the movements or processes vary at different rates. All the compounds with less adsorption and attracted towards the stationary phase moves faster in contrast to larger adsorption.
Adsorption of the solute components or molecules to the column happens in a reversible manner.

Rf stands for Retardation Factor and defined as the distance traveled by the solute molecules or solvent molecules.
